AGW -- Arctic Sea Ice Returning

I thought I'd just take a minute to relieve the minds of you who fear the ice cap is disappearing. It isn't. It looks like the seasonal melt of Arctic ice has ceased for the year, and turned the corner into increasing once again. However, this time when it turned the corner, there was still over half a million square kilometers more ice on the cap than at the same time last year. And in 2008, there also was more ice than in the preceding low year of 2007, when we were all told the ice cap was disappearing at an alarming rate and would soon be gone.

Here's an graph of sea ice extent for the last three years:

Let me point out that as far as I know none of the global warming alarmists suggested the ice would increase after 2007. Indeed, most were sure 2008 would bring a much deeper melt, and they made scary predictions to that effect. When that didn't happen, they decided 2008 was a fluke, and that 2009 would bring a deeper melt. *SIGH*

Here's another graph of the ice thaw/refreeze behavior of the last few years:

If honesty was something people still believed in, it would be noted and published widely that the seasonal variation in ice cover can vary widely, and that we really have no idea just how it behaves over the long term.

Of course, honesty long ago gave way to a mixture of sneakiness, misdirection, feigning misunderstanding, feigning forgetfulness, and outright lying as the way for people to get along with each other and it shows everywhere, in science, politics, and even among friends. And we're paying for it -- in dollars, in tears, in little pieces of our souls.

  1. Um, thanks. I was losing sleep again over it. Ha. No, I know it's important, but besides driving a hybrid, recycling, and not using aerosols, I'm completely lost... another Ice Age, here we come!!! Or not. Burn me up or freeze me. Wanna give up with me and pack up on a row boat, head out to the middle of the ocean, and just take our chances with whatever comes our way? I'm game. Pick you up at 4 tomorrow. :)
