Saturday, Sunday, and More

After my post on Saturday, as we packed up the garage sale, I decided I would after all go to see one of my former coworkers/current FB friends at Monelli's which is a restaurant very close to where I work. Her name is Linea and I only knew her really for a few months back at Metropolitan Hospital in 2001, but we became friends. Just before the disaster of 9-11, she moved away with her husband to Colorado, and I never saw her again and lost touch with her completely until I found her on FB last spring.

A few weeks ago she put out the word that she would be in town and wanted to reconnect with her friends while she was visiting, both old and new. I had originally thought I'd take my girls to the mall on that side of town, then drop by the restaurant to say hello for 15-20 minutes, then go back to get my girls. As much as I wanted to see Linea again, I figured she'd be catching up with her really good friends from years ago, and I didn't want to get in the way of that, or feel left out, which I assumed would be inevitable. But as it turned out, my girls didn't want to go to the mall, and I did need to at least go out and pick up a can of coffee since we were out, so I figured what the hell, I'd just detour over to Monelli's (it's only 40 miles round trip), say hi, stay for a few, then come back and finish my errand.

Well, it didn't go that way. I found Linea and a few of her friends right off, pulled up a seat, and didn't leave again until over two hours had passed. Most of the time it was just Linea, me, and three of her girl friends from high school. And yes, they caught up on old times and relived memories. But they were funny! I never felt left out at all--I had a great time and regretted that I really needed to get home.

Sunday was quite mellow and relaxed. I did sort out some books, and worked on my funky magnet, and did a few chores around the house. I was able to read a bit, fix a few things, watch a great come-from-behind win by the Tigers--in general, just relax. And now it's almost 1 a.m. Labor Day morning and I'm still going strong.

I expect that tomorrow (well, I guess it's actually today) the guy who wanted the swing set will come back for it. I want to sort through more books, do some more reading, and also do some writing. We also need to get all the boxes going to the Salvation Army ready to be picked up, and there is so much to do in the basement before we even begin to get the family room into shape. The take from the sale was several hundred dollars, and Dorothy wants to put the money toward a TV for the basement, and I think that's a great idea. I really want the kids to play their video games down here rather than in the family room upstairs.

I also need to clean out and organize my basement lab/office because I want to give it genuine walls and a door. So there's a lot of work ahead, but I think it will be fun.
