Short-handed

Today and tomorrow my girl Friday is on vacation, and we don't have anyone to fill in for her, so it's double duty time again. She did recover from her kidney stone pain the other day, so I had her around on Tuesday and Wednesday. Still, it's nice to have someone by your side you can rely on.

I seldom take breaks at work. Oh, I spread out the hour of downtime I'm allowed over the course of the day in several minute long episodes. I might check the news, send a quick e-mail, type this blog entry one sentence at a time. I could take traditional breaks, but the fact is, I don't want to--I like working this way.

I had wanted to get some writing done last night, but I didn't. The scene I'm working on really requires the right mood, and I just didn't have it. So instead I helped a friend edit about 400 words out of her manuscript. This is never really easy to do unless you're helping someone who routinely lards her sentences with useless words, and this author doesn't. What does help, though, is that her style is so similar to my own that editing her ms is just like editing one of mine.

Except for one friend for a few minutes on FB last night, I didn't chat with anybody yesterday. This is a bit odd for me. I didn't try to initiate a chat yesterday (other than the FB one), and no one tried to initiate one with me either, except for one friend whom I talk to only occasionally, but she was already offline by the time I saw she'd tried to say hello. It's a bit odd, but sometimes even I have days where I don't really have anything much to say. And I guess since others didn't try to chat with me either, they either felt the same or were too busy. Or, since I'm so quick to start chatting, assumed that since I didn't, maybe I was too busy.

But truth be told--I was just boring yesterday, even to me.
