Not the Weekend I Expected

Dorothy had to work again this weekend. So of course the minute she turns on her monitor it decides not to work. This particular brand of monitor has a problem where it needs to be reset sometimes. It had never happened at home before, though my unit at work had it happen once. I forgot what the protocol was to rest it, but a call to the IT help desk solved that. Unfortunately, following the protocol didn't work, and I ended up bringing the monitor from my VAIO upstairs and hooking it up.

Then later in the day, right after I returned from taking Joshua to rent a game at the video store, and also picking up some Wendy's for Josh, Ashley, and me, it turned out that the wifi at home was suddenly not working. Usually this is a temporary matter that resolves itself, but after 40 minutes it was time to call Comcast. After a number of resets of the modem and all that, it became clear that the problem was in my router. Now the signal from the router was strong, but it wasn't transmitting info. No series of resets or any of the usual fixes worked, so I knew I needed a new one. What is most irritating is that it had been working just fine all day, then out of the blue, blango! I hate that! It means I have to try everything to make sure it really did break, eliminating all the other possibilities. Anyway, I connected Dorothy's PC directly to the modem and she was able to finish work, but the rest of us couldn't be online.

Sunday after making sure I hadn't forgotten anything, I tried the router again and it still was dead. Then something good happened! I went to the local Meijer store, mostly because we were out of shampoo, and then just decided to see if they had routers. Not only did they, but they had a direct replacement for my busted Belkin, it was inexpensive, and when I got home and hooked it up I didn't even need to run the software to get it to work. This really was plug and play!

The weather on Saturday was dang cold and wet. Today it is still cold, overcast, and damp. I was hoping to mow up some of the leaves, but I don't think it's worth the effort to do it today. If the weather is better tomorrow or Tuesday, I can maybe do some of it after I get home.

My article still has to be finished. I just have to get to it; this one practically writes itself. Then a few other things to do, I guess. Dorothy is working right now, and the it's all quiet on the main floor front. I'll take it!
